Footprint (by Gerco de Ruijter & Peter Delpeut) is based on a small portion of terrain of the Will Rogers AirPort near Oklahoma City. The footage is provided by Google Earth Pro. As a side-effect of his research De Ruijter discovered how moving planes in high speed are depicted by satellites. Due to complex factors of optical, cosmic and technical nature the data visualization of aircraft motion breaks down into layered color facets.
Inspired by some samples he sent out to me, I also started navigating around in Google Earth Pro, which lead me to (my own) mindblowing discoveries of many weird glitches, odd doubling or creepy distortions. So, as a time- and spacetraveller I playfully researched the landing and departure runways of airports from all over the globe (a.o. LA, Miami, Beijing, London, NYC, Paris, Sao Paolo) and now I’m hooked (again) on my discovery channel where I can freely hover around in a virtual world unaffected by viruses.
As a bonus, the 11th image shows a magic plane by night somewhere above the ocean, captured by Gerco de Ruijter.
